The ICBA (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and Accountants) is a professional body for qualified finance professionals and business practitioners in Southern Africa, which includes bookkeepers, accountants, office administrators and financial managers.

As a professional body, the ICBA awards designations for people who hold recognised, registered qualifications and relevant work experience. Our qualified members can put letters after their names that are recognised worldwide.

The ICBA welcomes members who have ICB qualifications, as well as NQF-registered qualifications from other professional bodies and accredited tuition providers.

Learners who are studying towards one of these qualifications are also welcome to join the ICBA as student members.

As an ICBA member, you can apply to upgrade your designation as you achieve new qualifications together with relevant work experience. The ICBA recognises NQF-registered qualifications in bookkeeping, accounting, office and financial management.

The ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) is an Independent External Examination body - the ICB assesses competency. This is important, as it means that the ICB are not a training provider and the ICB does not run the courses or provide training materials. ICB's Accredited Colleges do that.

ICB has been appointed by QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations), to conduct examinations on a number of Registered Qualifications that are on the NQF (National Qualifications Framework), and to then issue the relevant qualifications.

In order for ICB Programmes to be delivered, the ICB have about 500 Approved Training Providers, who are all registered with DHET (Department of Education and Higher Training), to run ICB courses and training for its programmes.

The ICB has 5 study paths, each with its own set of subjects.  The 5 study paths are:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Office Administration
  • Public Sector Accounting
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Business management
